Job Title: Title Assistant—Typist
Reports To: Title Team Leader
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Department: Title/Commercial Title
Summary:The typist position is fundamentally important to the performance of the title department as a whole. Typing speed without compromising accuracy is the hallmark of a good typist. The individual performing this job produces the title commitment—the rough draft all parties use prior to closing, and/or the title insurance policy—the final insuring product for our customers. The individual in this position must possess good organizational skills; be able to type 65 or more words per minute with a high degree of accuracy; utilize 10-key by-touch; have the ability to communicate well with customers to obtain additional information.
Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Type title insurance commitments/policies using the instruction sheet.
Collect additional information from title officers.
Keep turn-around times at an acceptable level within company guidelines.
Type title insurance commitments/policies with a high degree of accuracy.
Identify and remember which customers need special or customized service.
Maintain and report title premiums to various underwriters (for policy typing).
Help other team members during vacations, staffing shortages, or when asked by the Team Leader.

High school diploma or general education degree; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to type 65 or more words per minutes without compromising accuracy.
Ability to use 10-Key by touch.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management and co-workers.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Proficient use of Ultima,Word processing, Spreadsheets, Internet software, E-mail, Order processing, windows, microfilm real machines and fax machines.
